I am a Santero, a wood carver of bultos (statues), a wood craftsman, and a painter in the simple and humble traditions of Hispanic New Mexico. My trademark is my use of marvelous, wood materials found as I travel through the desert and mountains. I get a feeling that I will utilize these naturally formed pieces to create something. Then when I begin a new project, I discover why I had to lug it out and how I was to use my found piece. My greatest satisfaction is finding a truly special individual to whom my art, which has been called "primitive", is truly loved or appreciated, and brings joy to the heart. |
